Amazon Kindle 2 Officially Launched [Just Not For The UK]
As we reported at the weekend, Amazon launched the new Kindle 2 eBook reader yesterday with lots of improvements over its ugly predecessor. The better looking Kindle 2 has not only had a complete facelift, but has been put on a Hollywood celebrity diet to make it just 0.36in thin - almost half that of the original Kindle. It also weighs slightly less at 10.2oz. The display now supports 16 shades of grey, as opoosed to 4, for better viewing of pictures. Again, however, Amazon is refusing to say when it will launch the device outside of the US where analysts say almost 250,000 Kindles were sold last year.

Sony Headphones Ask: 'How Low Can You Go?'
Not to be outdone by Sennheiser kicking off its 2009 earphone refresh with the new CX 300 II, Sony has launched 5 new sets of cans that promise the best bass around. With the tag, 'How low can you go?', Sony's XB series [eXtra Bass, geddit?] are promoted as having the "lowest ever bass", thanks to an ultra-low bass response. No doubt other manufacturers might query that claim. Sony hopes the new models will appeal to fans of hip-hop, dubstep, drum'n'bass etc. Sony claims that the XB range accurately reproduces ultra-low frequencies "without compromising crystal-clear midrange vocals and high frequency sounds". Heading the charge are the closed MDR-XB700 flagship headphones, featuring an extra-large 50mm dome-type driver.

LG's Arena KM900 Gets Official
There's been a lot of sneaky shots and rumours regarding the iPhone-mimicking Arena KM900 from LG but, the company has confirmed that the phone will get its official debut at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona on Feb 16. LG has taken some stick in the media with accusations that its flagship is little more than an iPhone rip-off, right down to the menu icons. However, that revolving cube-based menu is a bit novel, allowing for up to 4 different customisable home screens you can flick through with your finger. According to Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company:

Samsung And Bang & Olufsen To Create Rockin' Phone
TV and audio lovers are familiar with Bang & Olufsen (B&O), makers of expensive and highly regarded home entertainment kit. The company has even dallied in high-end mobile phones [the decidedly odd Serene, anyone?] but it ditched them last year due to lack of success. Now though, B&O is teaming up with Samsung to create a phone they hope will offer with unsurpassed audio. Leaked shots of the forthcoming M7600 indicate clearly that the amp inside will come from B&O, meaning audio lovers have something to get excited about. The phone itself looks a bit like the Helio Ocean 2 and sports a 2.8in AMOLED touchscreen, DivX support, HSDPA and GPS and a somewhat disappointing 3MP camera.

Amazon's Kindle 2 Leaked: Photos & Price
Amazon has so far ignored the rest of the world by refusing to launch its Kindle eBook reader outside of the US. That said, Kindle is ugly as sin but the same cannot be said about the Kindle 2 and these leaked shots purport to show just what lucky Yanks will be getting later this month. Amazon is expected to officially announce Kindle 2 tomorrow. According to the source these are the first official shots of what's on the way and they certainly look like the real deal. The new model is certainly prettier than the old Kindle [the one we've not been allowed to buy] and it's significantly slimmer too. See more sexy shots after the jump.

Zumba Phone Supposed To 'Revolutionise' Hands-Free Calling
We're about to bring you some rather hazy details on a new mobile phone technology that's supposed to 'revolutionise the industry'. Hazy because much of it is top secret, even the BBC was declined a working demonstration and instead left to settle for a few titbits of information. The phone is supposed to offer 'perfectly accurate' voice recognition for in-car use, and comprises of a flat earpiece type device and a slimline box with manual phone-controls on board.

Is Microsoft Really Building A Smartphone? [Please Say No]
Smartphones are the hottest tech segment around at the moment thanks to the likes of iPhones, Android G1s and any number of new sexy devices on the way from the likes of LG, Samsung and even Toshiba with its super-slinky TG01. But is Microsoft actually planning to enter this market? According to a researchers at Broadpoint AmTech and the 'multiple industry sources' they believe, Microsoft will be launching its own smartphone before the end of the year. There have been rumours about a Microsoft smartphone before with some suggesting that the device would use nVidia's Tegra chipset for advanced 3D and HD support. That said, Microsoft has flatly denied - again - that it is planning to do a phone.
