Star Trek VoIP Communicator Coming
Trekkies, to your stations! We've seen, and even played, with toy versions of the Star Trek Communicator but now a company called Dream Cheeky is making a real one. The new VoIP/Skype speakerphone looks just like the real deal and will no doubt burn its way up many Trekkie's gadget list when it's launched to coincide with the arrival of the new movie. Hell, if CBS is making 3 different Star Trek colognes [read about them here] then a working Star Trek Communicator isn't really all that absurd. There have been Bluetooth versions but this USB communicator/speakerphone lets you make those Skype calls from your office command chair with all the aplomb of a Starfleet Captain.

Toshiba Airs iPhone/G1 Challenger With Supermodel TG01 Smartphone
Toshiba is going up against Apple's iPhone and the G1 with the first unveiling of its wafer thin TG01 smartphone which is the first to use Qualcomm's super-fast Snapdragon chipset. The handset measures in at just 9.9mm, making the 12.3mm iPhone 3G look like its eaten all the pies. It also sports a stunning 4.1in touchscreen display with an 800 x 480 pixel resolution. It supports HSDPA data, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and runs Windows Mobile - which will make a certain number of potential customers groan in disappointment. There's a 3-D Toshiba user interface though to hide clunky Windows behind and most features are accessible by finger-swiping or tapping icons.

New Asus Eee Netbook Boasts 9.5-hour Battery Life
Netbooks are cheap and great for taking on the road thanks to their size but, some are let down by short battery life of just 3-4 hours. Netbook pioneer Asus has just launched its latest model, the Eee PC 1000HE, which promises a hugely impressive battery life of 9.5 hours [using Windows XP], which puts most laptops to shame. At 9.5 hours it's 2.5 hours more than previous 1000 model and well ahead of its netbook rivals. Of course, promising 9.5 hours and delivering 9.5 hours is not necessarily the same thing but, if the 1000HE manages more than the typical 8-hour working day, it will be quite an achievement.
