Gadget Prices On The Up
Last month, Sony bumped up the cost of its consumer electronics products by as much as 33% to combat currency fluctuations but now it looks like most Japanese gadgets are going to get more expensive. A strong Japanese Yen versus a weakening pound means that Japanese firms are expected to start tweaking their UK prices by 5-10%. Canon has already started the process with UK prices rising by up to 10%. Nikon also raised its UK camera prices by around 10% a few weeks ago.

Has The Recession Curbed Your Gadget Enthusiasm?
It's a dismal time right now and, not just in the UK. For some, the Christmas excess continued as normal while for many others it was batten down the hatches, break out the gruel and start huddling round the old PS2 and fighting for your turn. What we want to know is whether or not the current economic climate has curbed your gadget spending? Are there purchases you had your sights on that have had to be postponed or, have you just reigned in your gadget spending to those few essential items? If so, what got bought and what got a recessionary bump to the back of the line? Sales of consoles and games seemed to have been one of the few bright signs over the Christmas and during this month. Has that been the case for you or have you been replaying those very long RPGs again and again? And in case you're wondering, we're not collecting this research for any kind of slimy, telesales third party. We just want to know how badly your gadget obsession - like our own - has been hit. Or not.-Martin Lynch gadgets technology recession

Nokia's First Touchscreen Phone Hits The UK
Nokia's first touchscreen phone, the 5800 XpressMusic, has hit the UK on the back of 1 million unit sales elsewhere in the world. More than 100 eager fans queued outside Nokia's flagship store in Regent St, London for what Nokia billed as its "first mass market touchscreen device". The phone was launched in October 2008, including Moscow and Hong Kong where, according to marketing spiel, it sold out 'within hours'. The 5800 sports a 3.2in widescreen display for displaying photos and Web content and can playback and record video at 30 frames-per-second (fps).

Barack Obama Keeps His Blackberry
You may have heard that Barack Obama viewed the forthcoming confiscation of his Blackberry device by his security services as something akin to losing a limb to a rusty saw. Until very recently, the newly elected US president was still fighting to keep his and now, it seems, he has won possibly one of his first Presidential battles. Security has been bumped up on his precious Blackberry allowing him to keep it and, at the same time, become the first president to be allowed access to email from the White House. Spokesman Robert Gibbs confirmed the 'compromise' and added:

Sanyo Unveils 2009 Camcorder Line-Up [Pocketable, Waterporof, Full HD]
Sanyo decided to wait out the CES Show rush this year in order to hog the spotlight for the launch of its 2009 range of camcorders, comprising 6 new models. Sanyo is marketing the cameras as 'Dual Cameras' because of their improved photo capabilities. It's also of note because the company is offering each camera in its signature vertical grip style and a more traditional horizontal form factor. Sanyo is also claiming a few 'world firsts'. At the top of the heap we have the VPC-FH1 (horizontal) and VPC-HD2000 (vertical), which are claimed as the first 'consumer' Full HD [1080p] camcorders capable of shooting at 60fps thanks to a new proprietary CMOS engine. They may not actually be the first but they will be the cheapest.
